The Brian/Ryan Midge is a fantastic adult midge imitation. A simple thread body, Z-lon wing and a few turns of grizzly hackle. It’s a fly that has produced well for us for many years now.
This fly is so simple that we can’t take credit but Tom Ryan and Brian Flechsig tied this fly up in the early nineties and popularized it on the Mad. They were looking for a better imitation for the midge hatches that occur on this Spring Creek on warmer days in the Winter.
It has been fished successfully around the globe since! It is really one of the only midge imitations that you need.
